“The press was protected to bare the secrets of government and inform the people.”
Well, our press doesn't do that.
Today 90% of our news media is controlled by just 6 mega-corporations who share one goal: making money. They don’t talk about the real policies, people, and corruption impacting our lives – instead they sensationalize and divide in order to drive clicks and profits.
The result?
Everyday Americans haven’t been able to align on and hold our leaders accountable to our shared political interests (like reforming money in politics or healthcare). We’ve been distracted and too busy fighting among ourselves!
PRINCETON STUDY: Public opinion has “near-zero” impact on U.S. law.
“The opinions of the bottom 90% of America have a ‘statistically non-significant impact,’ [versus] economic elites who carry major influence.”
We the People need to take control of US political media.
We need to own the discourse, figure out what’s going on and what we need – and finally set the agenda for our country.
“The one barrier to democracy's destruction is an informed, engaged public acting together to confront the threat.”
- Noam Chomsky
That's why we
created Dis.course.
Because we believe in people and our potential and that progress is possible if we work for it together. We want Dis.course to be the place where Americans get informed, get engaged, and get the things we need.
